There is nothing stopping a master carpenter (making $60 an hour or more), with no student-loan debt, from reading Shakespeare, as well as finding lectures and courses to supplement and strengthen his reading of the Bard's masterpieces.
When your skills are in high demand -- like those who work in the trades -- your schedule can fill up. But if you're willing to you can make the time to crack open even the bullshit "educated" people read.
For the man who emptied my septic tank I think Derrida would be fitting reading material.
Self-described intellectuals would do themselves a lot of good to stop spouting stupid shit. To be fair: they've made themselves slaves to it. (They should call my septic-tank guy to flush it out of them.)
